Allergy Friendly Friday 8/5/11

Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

I’m back in LA, slammed with work, spending all my time in the kitchen. This isn’t a bad thing, so long as I’m not using the oven, which heated to 450 on a 95 degree day is a bit of a bummer. I prefer to keep my head in the fridge.

My kids are having a different kind of August. They are at surf camp in Malibu every day. I wish I were still a kid sometimes.

I’m thrilled to see all these new entries on Allergy Friendly Friday!  I think the word is finally getting around that we’re building an allergy-free blogger community here! If I did up an Allergy Friendly Friday badge, would you put it on your site?

A few select highlights from last week’s Allergy Friendly Friday were:

Some of you are still forgetting to link up, and so sadly, I couldn’t feature you (hint, hint, Graham Crackers, Nectarine Chips!) PLEASE remember you have to link back from your post, for me to feature your recipe! WITH A HYPERLINK THAT LINKS BACK HERE!  Please add your links for this week. Please link back to this post so you can share both your own and other’s fabulous allergy-friendly recipes. And remember, I specialize in creating gluten-free recipes that are free of the top 8 food allergens, but yours don’t have to be. They just have to be allergy-friendly in SOME way.

Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

It’s the last day of my vacation.  This is a picture of my son Monte and his friend Milu hugging the canoe.  Tomorrow I fly back to Los Angeles, and Monday I get back to finishing the first draft of my new cookbook, which is due right after Labor Day (yikes!)   I had thought I’d get a lot done here on the Cape.  Wishful thinking! Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

Thanks for your comments last week on Allergy-Friendly Friday.  I was very interested to learn which foods people find it hard to live without. Seems like white bread comes up over and over! I am happy that the No Tomato Tomato Sauce from Real Food Forager aready came in handy for Sara! Read the rest of this entry →

Allergy Friendly Friday 7/15/11 and Wellfleet with a Shellfish Allergy

Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

Greetings from Wellfleet!  I’m back home on Cape Cod, in the town where I grew up.  This is my son Lennon, fishing off the pier.  He’s stirring up trouble wearing a Yankee’s hat in hardcore Red Sox territory.  He was born in NYC, so maybe he has a bit of an excuse.

FYI, we fish off this pier, but we never catch anything. It’s all about the atmosphere, and practicing their casting. Here’s my other son, Monte, in a meditative moment.

The irony of 3 shellfish allergies in my immediate family is not lost on me. Wellfleet is the home of world famous shellfish. It is featured in fancy restaurants all around the globe. People always ask me how we can stand being here without eating the shellfish. Read the rest of this entry →

Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

As I write this, I am sitting in a car, on my way to Cape Cod. No, I’m not driving. But it strikes me as amazing that I can work from a laptop with a Sprint Smart View plugged in and blog in transit.  I both love and loathe technology. As you may have noticed, my site crashed this past week, due to a plug in upgrade, that caused what my techie brother called a “Server Barf”. Read the rest of this entry →
