Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

I’m a little surprised that not one single one of you had a thing to say about my Pumpkin Sunbutter Soup. Don’t be shy. Did you love it or hate it?  Yay, or Boo? I’ll be just as happy if you tell me you hate the concept as if you tell me it’s delish!  Alright, don’t tell me what you think of my soup, but at least tell me what you’re doing with pumpkin and all the other winter squash this season. I really do want to know!

I can now announce the special guest at the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy. This won’t mean anything to you if you don’t have kids, but if you do: It’s Kenton Duty, Disney star of Shake it Up!  My kids are HUGE fans. Kenton has become a Celebrity Ambassador who Cares for FAAN. He has food allergies, as does his father.  Above is a picture of Kenton and my boys, when we went to see a taping of Shake it Up!

Kenton is a real inspiration to kids with food allergies, and a very special person. In his free time at Shake it Up, when he’s not taping, he’s interning to learn about being a director and TV writer. Who does that at 16? I’m impressed. Kenton will also be at the Teen Summit for FAAN.

One more little plug for the Los Angeles  FAAN Walk for Food Allergy, of which I am honorary chair.  If you’d like to donate to this important cause, I’m on Team Kylie K, along with Lennon and Monte. Any small amount helps.

The FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Los Angeles is on Sunday, October 23rd.  Sign up to walk here. I will be signing books (all proceeds go to FAAN). And The Backbeats will be performing,

Now, onto the food!  A few highlights from last week’s spectacular round up of Allergy Friendly recipes were:

Please note that the name of this linky event is “Allergy Friendly Friday“. I see many listing it as “Allergy Free Friday”. That it is, but it’s also “FRIENDLY”. As always, PLEASE remember you have to link back from your post, for me to feature your recipe (except with the one exception I made today). That means link WITH A HYPERLINK THAT LINKS BACK HERE.  Please add your links for this week. Please link back to this post so you can share both your own and other’s fabulous allergy-friendly recipes. Am I repeating myself? :) And remember, I specialize in creating gluten-free recipes that are free of the top 8 food allergens, but yours don’t have to be. They just have to be allergy-friendly in SOME way.

Thanks so much for sharing my Smoothie Cybele! I LOVED the idea of your soup :)

Thanks for hosting and for highlighting my Tomato Basil “Pizza” w/ Cauliflower Crust! I have not made your Pumpkin Sunbutter Soup, but it sounds delicious. This week I shared a Garlic-Herb Raw Kale Chips recipe. They are so delicious, you can’t just eat a few. It’s made with a vegan Creamy Herb Dressing, the “cream” base is ground sprouted raw sunflower seeds. Thanks again!

I haven’t tried your soup yet, but I’ll give it a whirl. This week, I posted a recipe for 2 delicious Pumpkin Scone versions. I do a weekly cooking challenge on my blog and a “regular” pumpkin scone recipe was this past week’s challenge. I made 2 batches: 1) dairy, egg, peanut/nut, soy-free and 2) gluten, dairy, soy, egg, peanut/nut, corn-free. We were all very happy with the challenge, so much so that they were gone in a mere 12 hours.

Thanks for the chance to share the recipe here.

Hi Cybele! I found your blog after getting your Baker’s Handbook at the library. I’m not technically allergic to anything that I know of, but I have multiple sclerosis and am starting The MS Recovery Diet by Judi Bachrach and Ann Sawyer. This diet restricts gluten, dairy, eggs, soy and other legumes, and yeast. So that pretty much excludes 80% of what I’m used to eating. Your recipes look awesome, and I’m looking forward to trying some of them once I get the ingredients.
I started a blog tracking my food intake and recipes, first while doing the Standard Process Purification Program as a segue into, and now as I’m transitioning into, the MS Diet.

Hi! Thanks for hosting, I linked my Apple Pie recipe this week which is suitable for the SCD.

I printed out your soup recipe, but have not had a chance to make it yet, I am hoping to soon. I just picked up a copy of your “Baker’s handbook” last week and have loved both recipes I tried, but more importantly, so did my food allergic son. Thank you!

I just want to say Thank You! Just got your book and baked some breads for my children … absolutely easy and delicious.
