Allergy Friendly Friday 6/8/12

Dear Friends:

Thank you for all your support this past week! It means so much to me.  Thank you for sharing your recipes.

I am going to be very brief today, because I have to go bake cookies to bring to the FAAN Conference in Anaheim tomorrow.  For anyone who is in Southern CA, it’s not too late to register. Come join us.

I’ll be demoing how to make my Food Allergy Awareness Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Please add your allergy-free and/or gluten-free recipe links to Allergy-Friendly Friday. PLEASE remember you have to link back from your post, for me to feature your recipe. That means link WITH A HYPERLINK THAT LINKS BACK HERE. When you link back to this post, you can share both your own and other’s fabulous allergy-friendly recipes. Am I repeating myself? :) And remember, I specialize in creating gluten-free recipes that are free of the top 8 food allergens, but yours don’t have to be. They just have to be allergy-friendly in SOME way.

ALLERGY-FRIENDLY FRIDAY LINK GUIDELINES: PLEASE READ!

  • Link to your individual recipe post, NOT your homepage.
  • Recipes DO NOT have to be completely allergen-free, just “ALLERGY-FRIENDLY” in some way.
  • When you link, let us know who you are.  For example, I might add old fashioned gingersnaps (cybele @cybelepascal.com)

I really enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day-themed recipes over the past couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing.  I want to mention a few upcoming events.  First, I’ll be at Nourished, a food blogger conference, as Key Note Speaker on April 13th. Please come join us.

I will be at the GF Expo April 14th signing books (and hopefully giving out samples of my new cookies!)

Then, on June 9th, I’ll be at the FAAN (Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network) Conference in Anaheim, CA, teaching an allergy-friendly cooking seminar.  Please sign up for that if you are in the area (and even if you’re not!)

Allergy Friendly Friday

(TGIAFF)

I’m a little surprised that not one single one of you had a thing to say about my Pumpkin Sunbutter Soup. Don’t be shy. Did you love it or hate it?  Yay, or Boo? I’ll be just as happy if you tell me you hate the concept as if you tell me it’s delish!  Alright, don’t tell me what you think of my soup, but at least tell me what you’re doing with pumpkin and all the other winter squash this season. I really do want to know! (more…)

Our team in the Kitchen at the GF/AF EXPO Dallas: Chef Castano Penn, Chef Denise O’Dean SanFilippo, and Chef David Shaw

Last Friday, I traveled to Dallas for the Gluten and Allergen-Free Expo and Vendor Fair, which was a smashing success, with over 2000 visitors passing through the vendor fair, and all the cooking classes extremely well attended. I spent a good 10 hours baking and cooking in the kitchen you see pictured above, and quite literally never left the hotel once all weekend!  I walked through the doors at 4:00pm on Friday, and walked out at 1:00pm Sunday, got back in my rental car, and drove back to the airport. It was a great weekend, but a crying shame I never got to see a glimpse of the city, particularly since both my maternal grandparents were from Texas, albeit, Amarillo, which they always described as “dust-bowl”. Upcoming Events

Fall is back in full swing and I have a whole series of events lined up where I’ll either be doing book signings, cooking presentations, or speaking on panels about specialty diets and specialty diet blogging. To keep you readers in the loop, here’s where you can come see me in the next few months:

On September 21st, I’ll be joining a Frigidaire Kids’ Cooking Academy Save the Children event with Jennifer Garner and award-winning chef Suzanne Goin who are hosting an intimate round table discussion focused on all things holiday including recipes, traditions and managing chaos. They’ll even touch on how to cook enough turkey for all those guests (hint – the new Frigidaire Double Oven Range!). Online, people can check out Jennifer’s tips on holiday entertaining and all the ideas from the round table at Frigidaire.com. For the first 500 visits, Frigidaire will donate a turkey to a Save the Children family, and for every visit, $1 will go to Save the Children to support their US programs.  Plus, visitors are entered for a chance to win a Range with Symmetry Double Ovens from Frigidaire, the new freestanding range that can roast two full-sized turkeys at once. I’ll post more info in the next few days, and will be following up with a detailed blog about the event, and an interview with Jennifer Garner.

Gluten and Allergen Free Expo in Chicago

October 1st, I’ll be doing book signings of The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook,  and teaching a Holiday Cooking Class on Sunday, October 2nd (and signing after) at the GFAF Expo in Dallas. (more…)

As you may or may not know, I’m an Ambassador for The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN).  Tomorrow is the final FAAN conference of 2011, being held in Anaheim at Disney’s Grand Californian.  There will be many great speakers and advocates, and I’ll also be doing an allergen-free baking workshop, in which I’ll demo the gluten-free, top-8 free chocolate cupcakes you see above, and giving out samples of these same cupcakes as well as allergy-free mini red velvet cupcakes.  I’ll also be signing and selling copies of The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook (all proceeds go to FAAN).   I hope to see you there! More fun FAAN Walk for Food Allergy pictures 2010

Yesterday was the Los Angeles FAAN Walk for Food Allergy.  Amazingly, it was just as lovely a day as the Chicago FAAN Walk for Food Allergy one week prior.

And similarly to Chicago, many more people turned out than expected, coming together to move towards a cure for food allergies. I am always so moved to be around other Food Allergy Families, and am so excited to see more and more people putting the pedal to the metal.  We are fighting for a cure, and I can glimpse it on the horizon…

My team, Team LA surpassed our fundraising goal, raising $1249.80, thanks to the generosity of many of you readers!  Thank you – you are the best! The walk itself raised $49,278.88!  And there is still time to donate.  Last week’s walk in Chicago raised over $90,000! Wow!  That’s a tremendous accomplishment.

I met a lot of lovely new friends at both the LA Walk and Chicago Walk.  I am so grateful to have been an honorary chair at both walks, and I hope you’ll have me back again next year.  Below are some pictures of highlights.

Chicago FAAN Walk for Food Allergy

Dear Readers:

Just a reminder that I will Honorary Chair at  the CHICAGO FAAN Walk for Food Allergy (this Sunday, October 17th, Lincoln Park, Chicago). I will be signing copies of my new cookbook, The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook, chatting it up, and walking on Team Strava. All proceeds go directly to FAAN.  You must purchase your book in ADVANCE here, and bring it with you to the walk, for me to sign. We will not be selling books at the site, because it’s illegal, for some reason I have yet to understand. :)

If you are in Chicago and would like to join our team, or make a donation, see Team Strava. Come on down to Lincoln Park!

Together we can make a difference, moving towards a cure for food allergies.  1 in 17 children under the age of 3 in the US has a food allergy. 2 in 24. These numbers are staggering.  Let’s find a cure.

Thank you!

Cybele
